He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and began his professional journey as a mariner on cargo vessels operated by leading UK and European shipping companies.
During his career, he worked closely with renowned international seafarers’ welfare organisations, contributing significantly to initiatives that strengthened welfare services, improved working conditions at sea, and enhanced support systems at Indian ports. His experience, integrity, and deep understanding of seafarers' challenges make him a trusted voice within the maritime community.
Shri Sunil Kumar is a qualified Marine Engineer who began his maritime career in 2013 as a Junior Engineer and currently serves as a Second Engineer on tanker vessels. Known for his discipline, technical expertise, and commitment to professionalism, he represents the voice of marine engineers in the union.
He is deeply involved in supporting weaker and marginalized communities and plays an active role in promoting educational and welfare initiatives. Within RMU, he heads the Marine Engineers Wing, ensuring that the concerns of engineering officers are represented, addressed, and safeguarded through strong trade union mechanisms.
Shri L. Leela Shankar is a distinguished maritime welfare leader and a passionate advocate for the rights and dignity of seafarers. He began his career as a seafarer on cargo vessels before joining a port-based maritime organisation, where he gained extensive experience in labour welfare and port operations.

Shri Jaganmohan Naidu is an active and dedicated maritime worker who has been deeply involved in social welfare, labour rights, and union activities. With a strong belief in justice and equality, he has consistently worked to improve the working and living conditions of maritime workers across ports.
He advocates for fair wages, safe working environments, and social security protections while promoting constructive cooperation between labour, industry, and regulatory authorities. As the head of the Maritime Workers Wing, he represents the concerns of port-based maritime workers and ensures their voices are heard in all union decisions.
Shri Rahul Balireddy holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and began his career as a mariner. Known for his efficiency, commitment, and analytical approach, he plays a vital role in the union’s organisational and financial responsibilities.
His significant contributions include advocating for stronger implementation of Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) rights, participating in labour negotiations, and supporting seafarers facing legal or contractual challenges. He is also at the forefront of assisting seafarers in distress, ensuring timely wage disbursement, and raising awareness about maritime safety. As the head of the Youth Wing, he inspires and mobilises young seafarers to participate actively in union affairs.
Shri A. Sandeep began his career as a seafarer and currently works as a maritime worker. He plays an important role in RMU by representing the interests of ratings. His strong connection with the seafaring community and understanding of their day-to-day challenges make him a key advocate for improved welfare, training, and support services.
As the head of the Ratings Wing, he is responsible for bringing the concerns of deck and engine ratings to the forefront of union decision-making.
Shri Ch. Sathish Kumar started his career in 2009 as a marine cook and has dedicated himself to representing the welfare needs of catering staff on board ships. His experience in the galley and his understanding of hospitality operations at sea enable him to effectively address the concerns of cooks, stewards, and catering personnel.
He leads the Marine Cooks & Stewards Wing, focusing on professional development, training, safety, food-handling standards, and port-based welfare initiatives. He is instrumental in strengthening the welfare programs that support catering staff across Indian ports.
