RMU seeks strong partnerships with internationally recognised maritime federations, welfare bodies, and trade unions while maintaining complete independence, transparency, and accountability in all its affairs.

The Union upholds the core principles of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006, and supports the initiatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to promote decent work, safety, and fairness in the global maritime sector.

Objectives of the Republican Maritime Union

1. To safeguard the professional, social, and economic interests of its members.
2. To ensure fairness in employment, wages, and working conditions in accordance with international maritime standards and the MLC 2006.
3. To promote dignity, equality, and respect for Indian seafarers across the global shipping industry.
4. To prevent and protest against all forms of discrimination, exploitation, or injustice and provide full legal and welfare support where required.
5. To negotiate and conclude collective bargaining agreements with national and international shipowners and management companies for the benefit of our members.
6. To establish welfare schemes and emergency assistance funds for members and their families, ensuring support during distress, disability, or emergencies.
7. To promote continuous professional development through training programs, seminars, and collaborations with maritime academies and skill-building institutes.
8. To collaborate with global seafarer organisations and maritime welfare institutions to enhance quality of life and safety at sea.
9. To encourage and empower women seafarers, ensuring equal opportunity and professional respect within the maritime community.
10. To uphold ethical values by discouraging corruption, indiscipline, or practices that undermine seafarers’ unity and integrity.
11. To engage in constructive dialogue with the Government and stakeholders to strengthen the Indian maritime sector and promote seafarers’ employment worldwide.
